McTimoney Chiropractic Treatment

At your first treatment a detailed medical history will taken. Your condition will be discussed with you in relation to chiropractic philosophy and practice. In order to carry out the treatment you will be asked to undress down to your underwear (a modesty gown is available for ladies). Your appointment may take up to one and a half hours. Follow-up treatments take approximately half an hour.

The McTimoney Technique has been developed around the comfort of the person receiving the treatment. All the major joints of the body will be check for alignment and adjustments made where appropriate. A typical McTimoney Chiropractic treatment will include a number of key features such as:

  • The vertebrae of the neck, upper and lower spine are checked and then adjusted individually.

  • The pelvis is of particular importance and can be viewed as the "keystone" for the structure of the whole musculoskeletal system.
  • The pelvis provides the foundation upon which the spine rests. An unbalanced pelvis can result in compensatory changes in the spine which can have knock-on effects on the bones of the neck and skull. The pelvis also distributes the weight of the upper body down onto the knees the ankles and the feet. The pelvis is checked and adjusted in all its planes.

·        The joints of the feet, arms and hands are mobilized/adjusted were appropriate..

  • The bones of the face and skull are checked and adjusted as required.

·        The ribs are checked and adjusted on both the front and back of the body.

Additional areas may be checked and appropriate adjustments carried out.

The number of treatments required is different for each person. Some respond quickly, regardless of age or the length of time that they may have been suffering with their particular problem, whilst for others it can take longer to see an improvement. A clearer picture often emerges after the first one or two treatments. In general treatments will be given weekly to begin with and then fortnightly and monthly as the condition improves.
